Jhb Photography In Knysna Jo Borkett (summer 09)

Silky, soft white sand, glistening emerald sea and the sweet smell of thick pine forests filled our days last week. What more could one ask for in a working environment?

On location in Sedgefield, Knysna, we spent three days shooting for Jo Borkett Summer 2009. Privileged to be able to call the client’s luxury holiday house, ‘home’ for a while, (not long enough if you ask me), we overlooked magnificent views of the Indian Ocean and rippled sand of the desolate beach a few steps down.

Make-up and hair preparations called for many an early morning (oh but Tobi -it IS worth it hey?) and we normally started shooting by 9am. Blessed with beautiful weather, the first morning began on the beach with model, Margaret. After some stunning shots on the dunes and on the water’s edge, we moved into the forests in the afternoon. Nestling poor Margaret in the thick of it - literally - she ACTUALLY made it out alive without any killer spider confrontations.

Day 2 brought on the arrival of our second model, Huguette, and we spent the day shooting both of them in the forest. Having found a young pine forest, we found a few interesting plant colours & textures. As if the shoot was not exciting enough, the Heavens opened up to shake things up a bit. Armed with not much more than we were wearing, it felt like a scene from Ultimate Survivor, scrambling to find shelter and cover the model’s made-up face & freshly curled hair. Oh yes - AND the photo and lighting equipment…

Luckily the rain didn’t last and we were able to get on with the show. After a few more outfits, we made it back home and, after dinner, enjoyed a few glasses of wine on the deck, watching a vicious lightning storm out at sea.

We were awakend by a bright blue sky on the the third shooting day and our last day there. Excited to spend some more time on the beach, Huguette gave us some truly amazing images. After some well developed calf muscles were then formed, we got her high up on a jagged rock on the other end of the beach for quite an awesome shot, with her bright fuschia dress contrasting beautifully with the blues of the background. The afternoon slowly drew to a close, as we packed up and headed back to the airport for our trip home.

A fabulous time was had by all - many, many laughs, bottles of wine and deep conversations were shared. We’d like to thank all those that were a part of this enjoyable experience, and look very much forward to the next one.
